Social Activities

The Social Committee coordinates activities that attract new members and foster friendship and social interaction among club members.

If you’d like to get involved in helping to plan these activities with the Social Committee, contact social@staging.steeplechasers.org

Events

FSRC social activities include:

  • Running Celebration/Banquet in January
  • Frederick Running Festival post-race “Steeps” tent
  • Club picnic each summer
  • Decathlon Ice Cream Social in July or August
  • Winter Breakfast Runs
  • (Almost) monthly Happy Hours

Events are posted to the Frederick Steeplechasers Running Club Facebook group and in regular club e-newsletters. Let us know if you have any suggestions for our social activities! We are always open to any ideas that will foster our local running community.

FSRC Year-End Celebration Banquet

Typically held in late January, this event is an opportunity to join together in a special evening of celebration to recognize the accomplishments and efforts of our club members.

Frederick Running Festival Post-race “Steeps” Tent

We always get a large turnout for the Frederick Half Marathon, held the first Saturday in May. The Social Committee hosts a tent at the finish, well-stocked with refreshments.

Club Picnic

The Club Picnic, typically held in August, is a great opportunity for the Steeps and their families to get together for a good old-fashioned potluck cookout. In addition to great food and friendly competition at yard games, awards for the Decathlon series of races are presented at the picnic each year.

Decathlon Ice Cream Social

Held after one of the FSRC Summer Decathlon races at the track, this low-key event is a welcome chance to cool off with Bruster’s Ice Cream (sponsored by Charm City Run) after a tough track workout.

Winter Saturday Breakfast Runs

Various FSRC members volunteer to host these runs as a way to get together and keep running over the winter. Typically the host plans runs of 2 to 3 different distances from their homes. Participants gather afterwards to warm up and share breakfast. These are a lot of fun. And a lot of calories.

Happy Hours

The social committee schedules periodic happy hours at area restaurants/bars to get members together. It’s a great way to trade war stories about the agony/ecstasy (choose one) of the last race over a beer.
